Guest Speaker: On September 5th Rikk Watts will be teaching in both our morning services and on Sunday evening from 7:00-8:30. Rikk is a professor of New Testament at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. Many of us at PBCC have been challenged and influenced by Rikk at several retreats where he has spoken over the years. He brings a wonderful blend of deep biblical insights with a contagious passion for Jesus and the gospel. Rikk has served as an instructor at Gordon-Conwell (Boston), Wycliffe Hall (Oxford), Latrobe University (Melbourne) and the Bible College of Victoria (Melbourne). But more importantly this zealous Aussie has become a sincere friend of PBCC. |

Sunday Night Life: Everyone is invited to help us kick-off the Fall season with a brand new event we are calling “Sunday Night Life.” Every Sunday evening for six weeks this fall (from September 12 to October 17) we will gather together for food, fellowship, and teaching. The evenings will consist of two parts (feel free to come to one or both). First, we will share dinner together in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30 - 6:15 pm. Second, following the meal, we will have several seminars from 6:20-7:30 pm on various topics (marriage, finances, what PBCC is all about, and how to study the Bible). The purpose of Sunday Night Life is to enfold new people, foster community, and provide practical teaching. Limited childcare will be available. Please contact Andy Drake if you have any questions. For more detailed information about the classes, click on Sunday Night Life! Menu for September 12th: Slow roasted tri-tip and veggies, served with a roasted raspberry chipotle sauce, french bread, & salad. Sundaes for dessert. Prepared by the Andrew and Meier families, featuring future chefs Jordan and Joshua. |

Monday Night Classes: Old Testament Themes, taught by Brian Morgan, will help you acquire a coherent understanding of the flow of salvation history by examining major themes of the Old Testament (creation, promise, holy war, freedom, wilderness, covenant, land, spirit, psalms, kings, prophets, etc.). We will first exegete the text(s) where the theme originates; then we will trace the development of the theme through the Old Testament; then we will land the theme in the life and ministry of Jesus; finally, we will see how the apostles applied the theme in the church. By the courses’ end our hearts should “burn” whenever we read the Old Testament, like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:32). (No homework required). Sept 20 – Dec 6, 2010: Monday Evenings 7:00-9:00 pm in Fellowship Hall Cost $50 per individual, $70 per couple (Old Testament Themes book included) (Coming for Winter 2011: History and Geography of the Land – taught by Bernard Bell) |

ToHu Missions Silent Auction: Our Junior Higher’s have done a great job loving and supporting their VisionTrust students. One of our JHers, George Mathen, has created a fantastic painting (acrylic on canvas, 19"x23" with frame) with the intent of selling it somehow and giving the money to our sponsored students. We have decided the best way to do this is by silent auction. Here is how it will work: |

Men's Retreat will be October 8-10, so save the date! Our speaker will be Barton Tarman (click on name for more info). Sign-ups will begin in a couple of weeks! |

Dear praying friends,
The audio CDs with the psalms and I John have been sent to Chiapas where they are to be loaded onto (MegaVoice) players. They should arrive there tomorrow. (There was a bit of confusion about file names but it was sorted out.)
In the Old Testament Summary work we are up to where the Israelites are deported to Assyria. Rafael will leave tomorrow to check on his family and crops, and will hopefully return in a week or so. Jose will work two more days with us and then work at picking apples for a week while Marie and I go to El Paso for a few days to take a break and to get Don’s heart medicine.
Praises: The two fellows would like to work through September. Please pray for Don as he answers all the interesting questions the Tarahumaras are asking during the translation process. Pray too that they would have teachable spirits. God promises his Word will not come back void!
We are thankful for the good relations and the good work that have taken place.
It has been enjoyable observing the three cultures here in Cuauhtemoc. If a Mennonite comes to our house they stay in their car and honk, if a Mexican comes to our house they knock on the door, and if a Tarahumara comes to our door they just come in, no knocking because only spirits knock!
Thanks for your prayers,
Don and Marie Burgess
