Corporate Worship

Call to Worship: Psalm 62:1-2, 5, 8.

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
  my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
  he is my fortress, I will never be shaken…
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
  my hope comes from him…
Trust in him at all times, you people;
  pour out your hearts to him,
  for God is our refuge. (TNIV)

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God #26. Words & Tune Eine Feste Berg, 1529: Martin Luther.

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

Mighty to Save. Track 14 on Mighty to Save (Hillsong, 2006).

O Love that will not Let Me Go #374. Text: George Matheson. Music: Christopher Miner ©1997 Christopher Miner Music. Track 5 on Indelible Grace. Music available online in the RUF Hymnbook.

O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.
O light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.
O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

The Glory of the Cross. Words and Music: Bob Kauflin © 2002 Sovereign Grace Praise. Track 5 on Songs for the Cross-Centered Life. This song opens, “What wisdom once devised a plan where all our sin and pride was placed upon the perfect Lamb who suffered, bled and died.” It proclaims the great reversal God has accomplished through the cross.

Scripture Reading

Romans 5:6, 8, 12, 18-19. The disobedience of the one man Adam is undone by the obedience of the one man Jesus.

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly… But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us… Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned… Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. (TNIV).

Benediction

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
  How unsearchable his judgments,
  and his paths beyond tracing out! …
For from him and through him and to him are all things.
  To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Rom 11:33, 36)

The Lord bless you
  and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
  and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
  and give you peace. (Num 6:24-26)
